Maritime and Technical Council – Prerogatives of HCGI/HACIG

1. Advocacy for Maritime Rights

  • Promote and defend the rights and working conditions of maritime professionals, especially Cameroonian seafarers, in line with international labor and human rights standards.

2. Support for the Cameroon National Seafarers Order (CNSO)

  • Lead and coordinate efforts for the creation, legal recognition, and operationalization of the CNSO, representing the interests of national maritime stakeholders.

3. Partnership Development

  • Establish partnerships with maritime syndicates, associations, port authorities, government institutions, and international maritime organizations to promote sectoral development and rights protection.

4. Technical Oversight and Research

  • Conduct studies, inspections, and technical assessments to improve maritime safety, working environments, compliance with maritime labor laws, and anti-corruption measures.

5. Training and Capacity Building

  • Organize training sessions, seminars, and workshops to educate maritime workers and stakeholders on human rights, safety standards, maritime laws, and technical know-how.

6. Monitoring of Working Conditions

  • Ensure seafarers' rights to fair contracts, health coverage, proper living conditions onboard, and timely payment are respected and defended.

7. Crisis Response and Legal Assistance

  • Provide legal and humanitarian support to maritime workers facing abuse, abandonment, detention, or exploitation.

8. Promotion of Sustainable Maritime Practices

  • Encourage environmental protection and responsible technical practices in maritime operations to safeguard marine ecosystems and coastal communities.

9. Standardization and Uniform Compliance

  • Oversee the ethical and official use of HACIG/HCGI maritime uniforms, insignia, and official identifiers to avoid misrepresentation or fraud.

10. Media and Public Awareness

  • Contribute to public sensitization through publications, campaigns, and digital media, raising awareness on maritime rights, challenges, and the importance of the CNSO.
